What does Sipcode do?
Sipcode is a command-line tool that trims the context sent to Claude Code, saving tokens and improving answer quality. It works by intercepting commands like git status, git log, and git diff before they reach the AI, rewriting them into far more compact forms. On its benchmark, it cuts token usage by a median of 62.6% — for example, git diff drops from 21,500 tokens to just 1,260. The tool runs entirely locally with zero network calls and is open-source under the MIT license.
Sipcode operates in three layers. The first, called Valve, is a hook that automatically rewrites bulky commands into their concise equivalents before Claude ever sees them — no configuration needed. The second, Meter, reads your local Claude transcripts and tells you exactly where tokens went and what you saved, using commands like 'sipcode why' and 'sipcode stats'. The third, Drift, silently monitors your sessions and alerts you when context grows far beyond your baseline, suggesting a fresh chat to reset. All of this works without sending any data to external servers.
This tool is designed for developers who use Claude Code regularly and want to keep their costs under control without sacrificing answer quality. It's especially useful for long coding sessions where context can bloat from project history, repeated file reads, and verbose command output. Sipcode also provides a benchmark that lets you reproduce its savings on your own machine. If you've noticed Claude getting slower or more hesitant as a session drags on, Sipcode addresses that directly — by keeping the context lean from the start.
