What does Syllogic do?

Syllogic is a self-hosted personal finance dashboard that lets you manage your money on your own infrastructure. It shows balances, cash flow, and spending by category, and can automatically sort transactions into categories using optional AI (powered by OpenAI). The app runs on Docker, Railway, or CasaOS, and stores all your data in a PostgreSQL database on servers you control. There is a live demo you can try before deploying anything.

The dashboard comes with built-in subscription tracking that groups recurring charges by merchant so you can see exactly how much you spend on monthly services. Category analytics let you compare spending across time periods and spot trends. Transfer and reimbursement linking prevents double-counting when money moves between accounts. CSV import and export are supported, so you are never locked into the tool. A newer feature is the MCP Server, which lets you connect Claude Desktop or any MCP-compatible LLM to your financial data and ask natural language questions like "How much did I spend on dining last month?"

Syllogic is built for people who want more control over their financial data than hosted budgeting products provide. It is open source (AGPL-3.0) and designed for self-hosters, privacy-focused developers, and homelab users who prefer running their own stack. The optional AI categorization means you can use the full dashboard without an API key. If you do set an OpenAI key, transactions get enriched with merchant names and categories automatically. The roadmap focuses on onboarding improvements and community feedback rather than more features.
