MDMA

MDMA is an open-source framework that transforms Markdown into interactive user interfaces, specifically designed for large language models (LLMs). It extends standard Markdown with special blocks that define UI components like forms, tables, and approval gates. Instead of LLMs returning plain text, MDMA allows them to generate structured, validated, and renderable UI elements.

The tool works by parsing Markdown into an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST), validating it against defined rules, running the logic, and then rendering it into a live, stateful interface using React components. It supports nine distinct component types, including forms with typed fields and validation, buttons for actions, task lists, sortable tables, callouts, approval gates for role-based sign-off, webhooks, charts, and even a 'thinking' component to visualize an LLM's reasoning. This modular approach allows developers to use only the necessary packages for their specific needs.

MDMA is particularly useful for developers and teams working with LLMs who want to move beyond text-based interactions. It helps reduce token costs by using forgiving Markdown that smaller, more affordable LLMs can reliably generate, unlike brittle JSON. Real-world use cases include building contact forms, budget approval workflows, employee onboarding checklists, bug reporting systems, customer surveys, and sales dashboards, all generated and managed through Markdown.
