What does Web to MCP do?
Web to MCP is a Chrome extension that lets you grab any component from a live website and send it directly to AI coding assistants like Cursor and Claude Code. Instead of taking screenshots, writing descriptions, or guessing at styling, you click the extension icon, select the element you want, and the full DOM structure and visual styling are transmitted via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The AI assistant receives a pixel-perfect reference, so it can recreate the component accurately.
The setup is straightforward. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, sign in with your Google account, and configure MCP in your IDE — Cursor or Claude Code. The extension generates a unique MCP URL that you add to your project's configuration file. Once connected, you navigate to any website, click the extension icon, and select the component. A reference ID is copied to your clipboard, which you can paste into the AI assistant's chat to pull in the full component data. The whole process takes about 30 seconds.
This tool is built for frontend developers and designers who use AI coding assistants to generate or modify UI code. It's especially useful when you find a design you want to replicate — a button, a card, a navigation bar — and need the AI to match it exactly. By eliminating the guesswork and back-and-forth of describing visual elements, Web to MCP turns inspiration into implementation much faster. It works with any tech stack and any website, making it a practical addition to a developer's toolkit.
