What does drifty do?
drifty is a Mac app that quietly logs which apps, websites, and windows you use throughout the day. Instead of asking you to start a timer or tag activities, it records everything in three-minute blocks and then uses AI to label each block as Focus, Neutral, or Drift. The idea is simple: you work, drifty watches, and at the end of the day you get a timeline that shows where your attention actually went. The AI classification uses models like Gemini Flash, DeepSeek V4 Flash, or Qwen 3.6 27B, and you can choose to run it on your Mac, through drifty Cloud, or with your own OpenRouter key. No screen recording or screenshots are taken — privacy is built in from the start.
The app surfaces your data in a few ways. A daily timeline shows each three-minute block color-coded by focus status. A weekly calendar stacks those blocks into cards that keep the source app and site info. You also get a focus-versus-drift rhythm chart, a weekly heatmap, and a focus profile that summarizes patterns like when focus starts and how long it lasts. The Drift Alarm is a nudge feature: when drifty detects drift, it pops up with options to return to a recent focus tab, take a short break, or mark the moment as not a drift. An extreme nudge can even close the distracting tab and switch you back to work.
drifty is built for anyone who works on a Mac and wants a clearer picture of their day without manual effort. Remote workers, freelancers, and developers who hop between coding, meetings, and browsing will find it especially useful. It helps answer questions like “How much time did I actually spend on that project?” or “When do I tend to get distracted?” rather than relying on memory or stopwatches. The free tier runs AI locally; the $5/month cloud option handles classification off your machine. If you value knowing where your focus goes without having to log it yourself, drifty does the boring part for you.
