Xirp is an agentic development environment built by Spotify that solves a specific problem: AI coding tools generate code fast, but they often make decisions that are technically correct and operationally wrong because they lack context about the systems they're working on. Xirp connects to your services, ownership records, documentation, and architectural decisions — so every AI coding session starts with real context, not guesswork. Xirp works as a desktop app that you connect to Spotify's Portal (an internal developer platform). It indexes your services, models, and catalog to build a live context layer. The Workspace plugin holds work items, sessions, and docs in one place — when an engineer finishes a session, the context doesn't disappear; it's stored for the next person or agent. Xirp also automatically generates living documentation from coding sessions, so knowledge stays current without anyone having to stop and write docs. You can switch between Claude, Gemini, and Codex without losing context, and run sessions locally or remotely.
