What does SMRY do?
smry is a browser extension and web app for people who save articles and never get back to them. You add it to Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Opera, click it on any article, YouTube video, PDF, EPUB, or document, and the page lands in your library as clean, readable text. You can get a summary right away to decide if something is worth reading, or open the full page in a Reader Mode that strips out banners and pop-ups.
The strengths are the extras around reading. Summaries come back in seconds, and smry caches them so popular articles resolve instantly. Saved items can be turned into narrated audio using natural AI voices — free users get 2 voices, Pro gives 10. You can highlight in five colors, add notes, and export to Notion, Obsidian, Markdown, or JSON. There's also an "Ask about this article" feature that answers questions grounded in the saved source, plus tools to quiz yourself, map ideas, and check whether a source looks AI-generated. For heavier readers, smry supports RSS feeds, OPML import and export, full-text search, and a library organized by Inbox, Later, and Archive.
Who is it for? People with long reading lists — journalists, researchers, grad students, or anyone who reads a lot of long-form online. It also helps those who prefer listening to articles on the go, or who want to keep a searchable personal library of saved sources. The free version is enough to get started; Pro adds things like full-text search, sync across devices, and studio-quality narration.
