What does Inkwell do?

In Inkwell, your screenplay is plain text under the hood but structured on the surface. The editor knows the difference between scene headings, character names, dialogue, parentheticals, and 12 other element types, and Tab jumps you between them as you write. It has version control in the form of named save points — "Notes from Maya" or "Before Act 2 rewrite" — instead of a folder of Screenplay_FINAL_v7_real.fdx files. Changes are tracked at the scene and line level in a way that stays readable when notes get long, and once a script locks for production, Inkwell switches to WGA-style revision colors and marked pages.

The AI side works like a patient script editor in the room. Skills run passes on dialogue, continuity, or character, then drop each suggestion onto the exact line it belongs to, where you can accept or reject it. No wall of chat text, no accidental rewrites. A draft-lines feature lets you keep alternate takes — say, a happy ending — in parallel without duplicating files. And because your words stay portable, you can export to Final Draft, PDF, or plain text whenever collaborators expect it.

Inkwell is best for screenwriters who are tired of version-number chaos, production teams that need clean revision tracking, and writers who want AI help without losing control of the page. The same platform also includes Canvas, a coming-soon long-form document editor for novels, research, and technical writing.
