What does ExcelGen do?
ExcelGen is an AI spreadsheet assistant built around a simple prompt box. You describe what you want — "sum D2:D100 where B2:B100 is Paid" or "build a monthly budget tracker" — and it writes the Excel formula, edits a workbook, or builds a new spreadsheet. You can upload your own XLSX, XLS, or CSV file and ask for changes, or start from a blank idea and let it create a workbook from scratch.
The workflow is straightforward: tell it what you need, watch its progress while it reads the data, then review a preview. Edits are never written into your original upload — ExcelGen saves a separate new version, so you can always go back. Successful edits become the current file, and you can keep asking follow-up changes in the same conversation or select an earlier version. It writes real Excel formulas (IF, SUMIFS, XLOOKUP etc.) into the output. One caveat: formulas aren't recalculated on the server, so downloaded files may need a recalculation in Excel. That's a practical detail worth knowing.
The people who get the most from ExcelGen are spreadsheet users who find formulas tedious but can describe what they need. Data and operations teams can use it for monthly sales reviews, budget variance analysis, commission rules, outstanding invoice checks, and even research comparison tables with source links. Financial analysts like that the formulas and worksheets remain editable; non-experts like that they don't need to know formula syntax. It's not a magic bullet for highly complex legacy workbooks — ExcelGen will tell you when a change can't be made — but for everyday spreadsheet jobs, it feels like having a patient colleague who knows Excel.
