What does Portainer-Run do?
Portainer-Run is a new offering from Portainer that bridges the gap between AI-generated code and production-ready deployment. It lets non-developers deploy apps built by AI tools directly onto the Kubernetes clusters your organization already runs, without needing to understand Docker, Kubernetes, or GitOps. The tool handles all the underlying complexity, turning a simple drag-and-drop of a folder or zip file into a fully governed deployment.
Under the hood, Portainer-Run generates the Kubernetes manifest, commits it and the source code to your sanctioned Git repository, and triggers a GitOps deployment through Portainer Business. This means every change is versioned, auditable, and reversible — you can roll back to any previous version with a single click. Security is built in from the start: containers run unprivileged with all Linux capabilities dropped, and access is controlled via Portainer RBAC, so builders only interact through a personal access token, never with direct cluster access.
Portainer-Run is ideal for organizations where business users are building apps with AI assistants and need a safe, governed path to deploy them. It's also great for platform teams that want to support internal innovation without opening up infrastructure to outside providers. Whether you're a developer advocate, a platform engineer, or a business user experimenting with AI, Portainer-Run gives you a controlled, repeatable way to bring AI-built apps into your existing environment.
