ScreenML is a macOS utility that solves a common productivity headache: messy screenshot files with generic, timestamp-based names. Instead of getting files like 'Screenshot 2024-01-15 at 3.45.22 PM.png', ScreenML uses AI to analyze what's actually in your screenshot and generates descriptive, meaningful filenames automatically. This makes it incredibly easy to find specific screenshots later without having to open each file to see what it contains.

The tool works by leveraging foundational AI models with specialized prompts designed to identify key elements and context within each screenshot. After capturing an image, ScreenML processes it locally and produces a filename that describes the content. The app also includes handy workflow features like automatic opening in Preview for annotations, and a menubar icon that lets you quickly see your most recent screenshot and its AI-generated name without opening the file folder.
