Ardent

Ardent is a database branching tool built for teams that use coding agents — AI-powered bots that write and execute database code. Instead of letting agents run directly against production data (risky) or against stale seed files (inaccurate), Ardent lets you spin up a full copy of your Postgres database in under six seconds. Each clone is a 1:1 replica of your production environment, so agents can test queries, migrations, backfills, and data cleaning scripts with real data and zero risk.

How does it work? You connect your Postgres database — hosted on Supabase, AWS RDS, or Planetscale — and Ardent creates isolated branches. Each branch is compute- and storage-independent, meaning changes made in a clone never affect the original. Clones load in seconds, scale to zero when idle, and only store the data that actually changes (no full duplicate). Ardent also includes a diff tool that shows exactly what an agent modified, so you can review changes before merging. The whole workflow mirrors how developers use Git for code, but applied to databases.
