Buddi

Buddi is a macOS app designed for the small group of developers who spend serious time in Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding assistant running in the terminal. It lives in the notch on modern MacBooks and pops up an ASCII character that reacts to everything Claude Code does — thinking, reading files, writing code, or hitting errors. Think of it as a tamagotchi for your terminal, giving you a glanceable, fun way to stay aware of what Claude is up to without constantly switching windows.

The app ships with 18 different ASCII buddy species, each with its own look, personality stats, and rarity. Your buddy animates in real time as Claude works. A particularly useful feature is notch permissions: you can approve or deny tool calls directly from the notch, without leaving your current workspace. Buddi also supports multiple Claude Code sessions, so you can run several coding sessions at once and have a unique buddy assigned to each. It works with both cmux and tmux, meaning it fits into existing terminal multiplexer setups. The whole thing is built with SwiftUI, so it's lightweight and feels native.
